Biography

Emerging Mezzo-Soprano Emmeline Tovey strives to connect with audiences through her authentic storytelling no matter the project. Emmeline began her Master in Music in Vocal Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2023 studying under soloist and pedagogue, Jane Irwin.

​

In June 2023 Emmeline had the pleasure of working with director Brian Deedrick and conductor Kinza Tyrrell while performing as Lady Bertram in Jonathan Dove’s Mansfield Park at Opera Nuova. While at Opera Nuova she also enjoyed understudying the role of Older Woman in Flight by Jonathan Dove under conductor Gordon Gerrard.

In 2022 Emmeline graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with First Class Honours Hilary Summers.

​

In August 2022 Emmeline had the pleasure of working with conductor Rosemary Thomson while in the chorus of Opera Kelowna’s Production of Béatrice et Bénédict. Whilst in Kelowna Emmeline participated in Opera Kelowna’s Valley Opera Summer Intensive where she was grateful to have worked with Monica Huisman, Ben Butterfield.

Whilst at the Royal Northern College of Music, Emmeline enjoyed doing multiple opera scenes including Ramiro in Mozart's La Finta GiardinieraCarlisle Floyd’s Susannah as Mrs McClean and Mrs Quickly in Sir John in Love by Vaughan Williams. Emmeline also enjoyed her time in the chorus for The Snow Maiden by Rimsky Korsakov and Dialogues des Carmélites by Poulenc.

Emmeline has enjoyed performing works covering a wide range of eras and composers from Collaborating on Zwei Gesänge by Brahms in her senior recital to performing the Irving Berlin Musical, The Melody Lingers On.

​

In 2018 Emmeline won a place at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI) as a vocalist, where she had the pleasure of working with Penelope Bitzas. She had the opportunity to sing with BUTI under the baton of the legendary John Williams in a Boston Pops ‘Film Night’ at the Tanglewood Festival.

​

Emmeline has always had a love of theatre and has received in-depth dramatic training with renowned Irish teacher Niamh McAllister and Christopher Gaze, Artistic Director of Bard on the Beach, one of Canada’s leading theatre companies.

​

In 2023 Emmeline looks forward to performing in the chorus of The Snow Maiden under the baton of Matthew Kofi Waldren and the direction of Jack Furness.
